The Deep South Classic is always one of the springs top viewing period's top events. This year was no different with the event's top section final 8 teams providing fantastic competition and epic drama as they crowned the 2012 Deep South Champion Mac Irvin Fire.
Most Outstanding 2013 Player: Linnae Harper 5-8 G - Chicago Mac Irvin Fire - Linnae Harper was like Mariano Rivera in the World Series at Deep South because game after game she just closed out her opponent. In the round of 16 Harper scored 13 straight points with 7 minutes remaining to give the Fire a win to advance to the elite 8. In the Final Four Harper hit a half court shot to beat Tree of Hope which led Fire nearly the entire game and in the finals with 9 seconds to go Harper stole the ball from the Miami Suns down 2 scored and got fouled to give the Fire their second straight Deep South Championship. Most Outstanding may be an understatement for Harper's play last weekend.
Class of 2013 Top Performers: Trimaine McCullough 5-9 G FGB; Jetaun Rouse 5-9 G Mac Irvin Fire; China Dow 5-9 G Kentucky Premier; Raygine Moncrief 5-9 G Miami Suns; Brittany Brown 5-9 G Miami Suns; Kai James 6-5 C Miami Suns; Brittany Dinkins 5-7 PG Miami Suns; Andrijana Cvitkovic 6-2 F Kentucky Premier. Brea Saunders 5-5 G Jacksonville Lady Rams; Tiana Karopulos 5-10 IL Xcitement; Jada Lewis 5-10 G New Jersey Family
Class of 2014 Most Outstanding Player: Kelli Kingma 5-8 G Tree of Hope - Another Deep run for Tree of Hope at the Deep South Classic is typical for one of the nation's top teams. Kingma tucked away all the way up in Seattle isnt on the radar of most people down here in the South but she was one of the most impressive players I saw all weekend. Kingma is a killer off a ball screen where she can get to the rim with her athletic ability or pull up and shoot it from long range if you go under which makes her a match up nightmare. A major get for the University of Washington in 2014 Kingma proved she is among the nation's elite at the Deep South Classic.
Class of 2014 Top Performers: Sha'Quoia Crockett 5-8 PG FGB; Dominique Simpson 5-9 G FGB; Keyanna Harris 6-0 W Miami Suns; Lexus Spears 6-2 C Jacksonville Lady Rams; Shami Goodman 5-8 G IL Xcitment; Kandace Tate 6-3 IL Xcitement
Class of 2015 Most Outstanding Player: Jonell Williams 6-1 PF FGB - Williams had a monster weekend averaging nearly 20 rebounds per game and competing with some of the top players in the country game in and game out. Williams's FGB team finished 5th and 3-1 and proved to scouts and coaches alike she is an elite category of the class of 2015. Williams's emerging face up game and unlimited potential makes her a lock in the top 25 nationally in 2015.
Class of 2015 Top Performers: Deja Strother 6-5 C Tree of Hope; Beatrice Mompremier 6-4 C Miami Suns; Crystal Primm 5-11 W Miami Suns;
