WBB Insider - Top Club Teams of the South Week 2

Our first results are in from around the South which kicked off in Atlanta with two ranked team match ups.

Don Brown's Knoxville Lady Panthers Gold came into the pre-season #13 ranking and showed they may be better then previously thought with a dominating victory over the Georgia Hoopstars Black Elite. Ashlee Mitchell 2013, who was a 2011 Insider All American and Co MVP of the Best of Tennessee 2011 Camp which featured participants in the McDonald's All American game was special according to Don Brown who's quickly built the top team in East Tennessee and one of the top teams in the South. Mitchell finished with 26 in the win over the Hoopstars. The Hoopstars started the Spring at #20 in the South but look to take a tumble after a rough weekend which included a near loss to FBC Southeast Elite.

In other action AOT might have proved they deserve a little more respect then given in our pre-season rankings but until they play a Top 5 program we will hold them in at #4. AOT built a 21-0 lead over highly touted Central Florida Elite and finished them off by the same margin 68-47 in a championship game that was never much of a game. All-World Diamond DeShields made her first appearence this year with AOT after picking up the MVP award at the GACA Junior All Star game which featured 8 players ranked in the Top 60 Nationally by ESPN. Lexie Brown who played club ball in Florida with Central Florida Elite also dominated with strong play for AOT showing the state of Florida what we have been missing since she left for Georgia. Brown was on pace to be one of the best players in the history of the state of Florida.

In Florida, the Jacksonville Lady Rams who are usually a staple in the Top 20 Club Teams of the South struggled in the Championship game versus Florida Future out of Ft Myers trailing by as much as 11 in the second half the Rams came back to win the AAU Super Regional title behind a strong efford by Brea Saunders 2013 - Hilliard and Sherranda Reddick 2013. While this is likely the weakest team in several years for the Jacksonville Lady Rams, both Reddick and Saunders are two of the better guards in Northeast Florida and will attract plenty of college attention this spring and summer.
